The organiser of the Ellerslie Flower Show says bad weather on the show's opening day has meant attendance numbers are down on previous years.
The show's managing director, Dave Mee, says more than 5000 still braved the cold, wet conditions in Christchurch on Wednesday.
He says he is not surprised some visitors kept away, but expects them to come later in the week.
The show, which is in its 16th year, was cancelled last year, due to the 22 February earthquake.
