Hospital takes security precautions over Occupy campers

2:06 pm on 6 March 2012

Christchurch Hospital has hired extra security staff due to fears about the behaviour of Occupy Christchurch campers at the hospital and in surrounding streets.

Protesters have been camped in Christchurch's South Hagley Park since mid-October as part of the global Occupy movement.

Canterbury District Health Board says many campers have caused problems at the hospital while trying to make use of its facilities, such as the toilets.

It says 25 campers have been trespassed from the hospital, due to problems with rude, offensive and at times intoxicated behaviour.

Christchurch City Council will consider a report this month on any action to be taken to move the group.
