The Green Party is promising to simplify the tax system for small business owners so they do not have to spend hours filling out forms.
Under its policy announced in Auckland on Tuesday, small businesses with a turnover of under $600,000 a year would not have to meet the tax requirements of larger firms.
Greens co-leader Russel Norman says the party has adopted the recommendations of the Institute of Accountants which would change the way small businesses are treated.
Dr Norman says it would enable small businesses to be treated as sole traders.
He says the Greens have other initiatives to help small businesses prosper, including getting the Government to buy locally made, environmentally sustainable goods and services.
Dr Norman says the Greens would provide $20 million a year over three years to help small businesses meet the cost of raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
