The premier said given the high number of cases, "we are likely to see this trend continue for the next few days so everybody prepare themselves for higher case numbers in the next few days".

A woman in her 60s who was not vaccinated died at Liverpool Hospital after contracting the virus.

The number of Covid-related deaths in NSW during the current outbreak is now 22. There have been 79 deaths in the state since the beginning of the pandemic.

There are 120 in NSW which have been linked to a known case or cluster - 95 are household contacts and 25 are close contacts while the source of infection for 171 cases is still under investigation.

Forty-eight cases were infectious in the community, and the isolation status of 104 cases remains under investigation.

There are currently 304 Covid-19 cases who have been admitted to hospital in NSW, with 50 people in intensive care, 22 of them require ventilation.

There are 24,000 students living in affected areas who have been offered Pfizer vaccinations ahead of their exams in October.

Yesterday NSW recorded five deaths and 262 new locally acquired Covid-19 cases.

Victoria enters first day of week long lockdown

Victoria has reported six new locally acquired cases of Covid-19 as the state enters the first day of a one week lockdown.

Two of the new cases were reported yesterday and are linked to the Al-Taqwa College teacher who tested positive on Wednesday.

The six cases are all linked to previously reported cases but were not in quarantine during their infectious periods, health officials said.

The cases were detected from among 29,631 test results processed on Thursday.

Two Virgin flights in and out of Melbourne have been added to Victoria's list of exposure sites, which includes dozens of shops across the city's west.

Health authorities are racing to test and quarantine nearly 2500 primary close contacts linked to Al-Taqwa College in Melbourne's west.

Queensland reports 10 new locally acquired Covid-19 cases

Queensland has recorded 10 cases of coronavirus in the community in the past 24 hours, Deputy Premier Steven Miles says.

Miles said today's results were "very, very promising".

All the cases are household contacts and directly linked to the Delta outbreak which started at Indooroopilly State High School, in Brisbane's inner west.

Just two of the cases were infectious in the community for one day, during the South-East Queensland lockdown.

There are now 89 cases in the Delta cluster, and a total of 132 active cases in Queensland.

A lockdown in the state's south-east is due to end on Sunday, and Miles said while restrictions seem to be working, the next few days will be key.
