The family of three left managed isolation in Christchurch and returned home to Auckland on the same flight as a positive Covid-19 case - before a trip to Taupō to go skydiving and visit hot pools.

The health board says they also visited the Z petrol station in Tūrangi late on Sunday morning, and Subway and KFC on Roberts Street on Sunday afternoon.

A Taupō skydiving instructor is one of those going into isolation for two weeks after jumping out of a plane with one of the recent positive cases.

Director General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said it was disappointing and 'not ideal' the family met up with 18 friends in Taupō, despite Aucklanders' gathering limits of 10.

He said it was a reminder to Aucklanders to keep their local alert levels in mind as they approached the school holidays.

Full list of places visited in Taupō:

  • DeBretts Taupō Hot Springs, Taupō - Friday 18 September, 2.30pm-7pm

    • The Ministry of Health says there is a small risk that anyone who visited these places at these times may have been exposed to Covid-19 and is considered a casual contact.

"You should monitor yourself for symptoms of Covid-19 for 14 days from the time of exposure. If you develop any symptoms you should stay at home and call your GP or Healthline on 0800 358 5453 to arrange to get tested," Dr Neil de Wet, Medical Officer of Health, said.
