Quake fraud charges laid against property developer

Fraud charges have been laid against a Christchurch property developer following a complaint by the Earthquake Commission.

The woman, 41, has been charged with using forged documents, altering a document with intent to deceive and using a document with intent to obtain a pecuniary advantage.

The charges relate to claims made to the Earthquake Commission regarding properties she owned in Main South Road and Ferry Road.

They relate to the September 2010 and February 2011 earthquakes and the claims total approximately $20,000.

Detective Brent Lyford says there are three cases currently before the courts involving fraud relating to Earthquake Commission claims, and a further three cases are under investigation.
