Mail deliveries were resuming in Christchurch on Wednesday following disruption caused by a series of earthquakes.

The tremors on Friday - one as large as magnitude 6 - forced the evacuation of the mail processing centre.

New Zealand Post says staff were back at work on Tuesday.

However posties may not yet be able to deliver to some addresses in the eastern suburbs and Sumner becuase of obstruction or damage.

A spokesperson says deliveries will decided on a case-by-case basis and residents will be advised if their mail can not be delivered.
