Airline to offer greater flexibility to quake travellers

Air New Zealand is to give customers greater flexibility to travel to and from Christchurch because of Friday's earthquakes.

Christchurch international airport was closed for much of the afternoon while the runway and other facilities were checked for damage.

Air New Zealand says flights returned to normal on Friday evening, and two extra return services to Auckland were put on to make up for lost time.

Passengers ticketed before Friday for travel to or from Christchurch up to next Friday, can bring their travel forward or defer it for up to 12 months.

Christchurch airport says the situation there is fairly orderly despite yesterday's disruptions.

While there are still some delays to flight arrivals and departures, a spokesperson says passengers have been calm and understanding.
