The Government is making more than $850,000 available for high-tech businesses in Canterbury to hire interns to work on research and development projects.

More than 130 positions for science, engineering, and technology undergraduates are available for up to 400 hours of work at $16 an hour during the summer.

The Minister of Science and Innovation Wayne Mapp says the funding is part of the Government's wider support package for businesses affected by the earthquakes.
