Winter woollies for quake-hit residents

Rural women have again organised help for earthquake-hit Christchurch residents.

The bitterly cold conditions including heavy snow this week brought calls for help from the Christchurch Women's Refuge and the eastern suburb of Dallington's Community Hub.

Rural Women New Zealand's national office teamed up with retailer The Warehouse to organise a supply of pyjamas, children's underwear, bed socks and hot water bottles.

The Warehouse's Wellington outlets donated the winter woollies and hot water bottles, which the Allied Pickford Moving Company transported to Christchurch free of charge.

Last week, Canterbury based Rural Women member Helen Heddell, acting as catering coordinator for the Farmy Army, organised a team of volunteers to deliver lamb roasts to the badly damaged areas of Christchurch.
