Most cars now retrieved from CBD

Police in Christchurch have nearly recovered all the vehicles that were trapped in the central city following February's earthquake.

About 4200 vehicles have been brought out and about 200 more may still be within the red zone.

However, several hundred of the vehicles have not yet been collected by their owners.

Police say the remaining trapped vehicles are in tricky places, such as in buildings using a lift system for cars. Without electricity in the central city, it is very difficult to retrieve them.
