Sumner boulders being removed

Work is underway to make the Sumner area of Christchurch safe from rockfalls.

Civil Defence Controller John Hamilton says dangerous boulders which threaten Wakefield Avenue are being secured or removed.

He says geotechnical engineers have also mapped dangerous boulders along the slopes above Heberden Avenue, Sumnervale Drive, and Evans Pass Road - a key route to Lyttelton.

Mr Hamilton says the project will take about three weeks to complete.

He says work will start to secure other areas above houses in the next month.
