Portable toilets to be redistributed to eastern suburbs

Civil Defence says portable toilets will be redistributed on Tuesday to badly damaged eastern suburbs of Christchurch following February's earthquake.

Civil Defence national controller John Hamilton says a reassessment of the location of portable toilets is under way to take account of repairs to the sewerage system and areas in need.

Portable toilets in Hoon Hay Road and other locations are being moved to the eastern suburbs.

However, Civil Defence says that if people urgently need a portable toilet, they should call the council.

Residents using chemical toilets are being asked not to empty them into portable toilets but to wrap the waste up securely and dispose of it in their red rubbish bins or at collection tanks.
