A second day of community briefings for quake-affected residents of Christchurch was held on Monday.

About 250 people gathered at Sumner School to hear the latest information from the authorities.

Inspector Malcolm Johnston told locals there are five times the usual number of police on the street and crime is not escalating.

Many residents from Clifton Hill were told it could be up to a week before their power is reconnected.
