The principal of the largest boys' school in the South Island says it will have to relocate in the short term because of earthquake damage.
Shirley Boys' High School has more than 1500 students.
Its principal, John Laurenson, says a large number of buildings have been damaged.
Mr Laurenson says that while the damage to the city might seem overwhelming, he's confident Christchurch will recover stronger than ever.
