More homes in the Christchurch suburb of Mt Pleasant have been evacuated due to the danger of falling rocks following the destructive earthquake.
Civil Defence and Urban Search and Rescue evacuated 23 properties in Bridle Path Road, La Costa Lane, Maffeys Road and McCormacks Bay Road on Saturday.
On Friday night, 30 residents in Soleares Avenue, also in Mt Pleasant, had to move out of the properties when their homes were deemed unsafe, following the 6.3-magnitude quake which struck at 12.51pm on Tuesday.
The day before, 12 streets in the neighbouring suburb of Redcliffs were evacuated because of an unstable cliff face.
Four houses in Lyttelton were evacuated on Saturday because of fears a big boulder at the top of the Port Hills could be dislodged by an aftershock.
Civil Defence spent the day demolishing buildings on two main streets in the port city. Its area co-ordinator for Lyttelton, Ken Maynard, said several streets were evacuated earlier on Saturday after a resident reported a rockfall.
