The Government has increased funding for Canterbury's damaged surveying network following the magnitude 7.1 earthquake in September.
The Minister for Land Information has announced an extra $850,000 towards re-establishing the network which is used for infrastructure such as roads and sewerage .
Land Information New Zealand says ground movement from the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks has damaged the physical markers used to survey the land.
The agency says it is crucial to the rebuilding of Canterbury to re-establish these markers.
LINZ says functioning sewage, flood control and irrigation systems are all dependent on an accurate survey network.
The funding is in addition to $250,000 given in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake on 4 September.
The work is expected to be completed by June next year.
