Sewage no longer spilling into Christchurch rivers

Sewage is no longer being discharged into Christchurch rivers, following extensive repairs to the quake-damaged sewer network, damaged in September's earthquake.

The 7.1 earthquake on 4 September cut sewerage services to 2700 homes, but the number is now down to 70, and the rest should be reconnected within two weeks.

The city council says however that the network is still fragile.

Meanwhile, the council has begun removing cordons from around some shops in Colombo Street, Sydenham, as contractors work to improve street and footpath access.
