Quake-hit residents want better communication

Some Kaiapoi residents whose land was damaged by the earthquake last month are becoming frustrated with what they say is a lack of communication by the Earthquake Commission.

At a meeting on Tuesday in Kaiapoi to update residents, attended by 300 people, some said they had not been given enough information, and cannot begin repairs because the Earthquake Commission is not communicating with their insurers.

Commission chief executive Ian Simpson told the meeting he agrees communication between it and private insurers can improve.
