Union to picket Christchurch companies

A union which represents low-paid workers planned to picket on Sunday two Christchurch companies it says let staff down following the earthquake.

Unite says it has been inundated with complaints from workers and has been negotiating with a number of companies that have refused to do right by their staff.

Union organiser Matt Jones says one of the companies involved is refusing to pay staff rostered to work the day after the quake, when the site was closed.

A spokesperson for the company singled says by the union says all staff who were scheduled on the day after the quake got full pay, irrespective of whether they worked or not.
