Earthquake damage repairs are complete on almost half of the Canterbury homes that fall under the largest residential repair programme in the city.
The Canterbury Home Repair Programme run by Fletcher Earthquake Recovery is responsible for repairing properties where the cost falls between $15,000 and $100,000.
The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister, Gerry Brownlee, says repairs to more than 38,000 of about 80,000 homes are complete.
Mr Brownlee says about 2000 home repairs are being completed each month and the programme will hit the half-way mark within the next few weeks.
He says the Earthquake Commission (EQC) is expected to finish repairs to properties with the worst structural damage by the end of the year and all repairs will be done by the end of 2015.
To date, EQC has paid out $5.5 billion on earthquake related claims.
