School merger talks take in parks

Christchurch City Council confirms it has been in discussions with the Ministry of Education about how the restructuring of the city's school system could affect public parks.

Greenspace unit manager John Mackie said schools that are merging on one site may need extra room.

He said that means the possible acquisition of some parks and other green space.

Mr Mackie said the discussions began a few months ago. No decisions have yet been made that affect any parks or green space.
