Anglican Church to look at cardboard cathedral funding

The Anglican Church says it will reconsider how it funds the transitional cathedral in light of a recent High Court judgement.

In his ruling last week, Justice Chisholm questioned whether insurance money received for the damaged ChristChurch Cathedral should be allowed to be used on another site.

The Church Property Trust was planning to put $4 million of the payout towards a $5.3 million cardboard cathedral near Latimer Square.

A church legal adviser, Jeremy Johnson, says Justice Chisholm asked the trust to reflect on the issue, before coming back to him with its thoughts.

Mr Johnson says the judge is yet to make a firm decision on how the church can allocate its insurance money.
