Decision on Lancaster Park months away

Insurers for Christchurch's Lancaster Park say a decision on whether to repair the stadium is still months away.

Christchurch City Council says it stands by its plan to demolish the stadium it and replace it with a half-billion dollar venue in the city's CBD.

The council plans to contribute more than $200 million towards the new stadium, including an expected insurance payout of about $140 million.

The insurer, Civic Assurance, says initial work suggests Lancaster Park can be repaired for under the full insurance amount.

Chief executive Tim Sole says further investigations into the site are still to be done and reviewed by the council's engineers.
