Police in New Zealand and Australia are to investigate the construction supervisor of the CTV building over his claim of having an engineering degree.
The collapse of the building in the February 2011 earthquake in central Christchurch killed 115 people.
Following accusations that Gerald Shirtcliff had assumed the identity and engineering degree of a former colleague, Engineers Australia held an internal investigation.
It says it found Mr Shirtcliff registered some 40 years ago under another man's identity.
A senior New Zealand police officer has already been assigned to look into the accusation and Engineers Australia has now passed the matter to the Australian Federal Police.
EA chief executive Stephen Durkin said the membership Mr Shirtcliff was using, under the name William Fisher, has been cancelled.
'Facts still to be uncovered'
Mary-Ann Jackson, who fled the CTV building as it collapsed, does not think the Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission has uncovered all the facts about the people involved in its construction.
With police in both countries investigating, she says it is less likely that details will be missed.
