All advice pointed to cathedral demolition - PM

The Prime Minister says the Government has seen no engineering advice that supports anything but the demolition of Christchurch's Anglican Cathedral.

John Key says engineers have said the cathedral is dangerous in its current state and their advice should not be second-guessed.

Mr Key says he understands people's concerns about the demolition but hopefully parts of the demolished structure can be used in the replacement to ensure historical continuity.

He says the Government has released all its information on the cathedral and has called on the Anglican Church to do the same.
