Housing New Zealand says its worst-affected tenants in Christchurch will be moved into new homes first.

The agency has announced plans to build up to 350 houses in the next 18 months.

It plans to subdivide larger sections and increase density on other sections to build up to 10 houses on some sections.

Assets redevelopment general manager Sean Bignell says Housing New Zealand has 288 tenants it classes as priority and expects building to begin by August.
