An auction of art produced by Christchurch prisoners has raised $22,000 for the city's earthquake relief effort.
On Saturday, 140 art works were auctioned off to an audience of about 300.
About 75 inmates from three Canterbury prisons produced the art.
The most expensive piece, a waka carved from wood taken out of the central city, sold for $1600.
Rehabilitation and reintegration services regional manager Steve Berry says the prisoners initiated the idea after the earthquake in September 2010.
