The owner of Rainbow's End theme park has reported its profit has fallen by more than a quarter.

New Zealand Experience says its profit fell 26.7% to $740 million in the six months to December.

Revenue increased 0.8% to $5.8 million.

It says visitor numbers decline by 8% to about 155,000.

The company says poor weather and Rugby World Cup entertainment zones deterred people from going to the theme park.
