Stockmarket ends up

The benchmark NZX 50 index has ended Friday up 8 points or 0.3% at 3215. Turnover was $42 million.

Among the major share movements, Fletcher Building was up 1 cent at $5.98, Telecom was up 3.5 cents at $2, Chorus gained 5 centS to $3.11 and Contact was down 2 cents at 5.10.

Sky City Entertainment was up 7 cents at $3.40, Sky Network TV was down 6 cents at $5.32 and NZ Refining finished up 2 cents at $2.80.

Kathmandu gained 8 cents to $1.72 after Thursday's announcement that sales have become increasingly difficult, particularly in Australia, in the Christmas period so far.

Auckland International Airport lost 5 cents to $2.42, Air New Zealand was unchanged at 89 cents and The Warehouse was also unchanged at $3.01.

In currency markets, the dollar dipped briefly on the news of a substantial new earthquake and subsequent aftershocks in Christchurch, but at 5.20pm was trading at 77.48 US cents, 76.17 Australian, 49.42 pence, 60.54 yen and 0.5929 euro.

The TWI was at 69.17.
