The end of an era is nearing for Telecom, with the outcome of a vote to split the company into two due on Wednesday afternoon.
At its annual meeting in Auckland on Wednesday, Telecom sought approval from shareholders to separate its retail and network arms into stand alone companies in order to participate in the Government's ultra fast broadband initiative.
Network business Chorus has already won the contract for supply of a large part of the fibre network.
The vote to separate is considered a formality and outgoing chairman Wayne Boyd says it's a pivotal time for the company and investors.
He will stand down as chairman next month.
