BERL chief economist Ganesh Nana has told Nelson business people that to be successful they need to export or perish.
Speaking at an economic development forum, Dr Nana said that while Government debt is being brought under control, private sector debt is getting worse and that is the Achilles heel of the New Zealand economy.
He says that, running in parallel with the international debt crisis, is the massive rise in world food prices, up 28% from a year ago and if governments worldwide can not feed their populations, there will be unrest.
