Genesis Energy has lodged its application for resource consents for the Castle Hill Wind Farm in northern Wairarapa.
The proposed wind farm site 20 kilometres northeast of Masterton involves up to 286 wind turbines with a potential generation capacity of 860 megawatts.
The resource consent applications have been lodged with the Greater Wellington and Horizons regional councils and Masterton and Tararua district councils.
