Auckland property listings, sales rise

1:59 pm on 1 June 2011

The Auckland housing market has continued to run ahead of the rest of the country.

Realestate.co.nz's monthly report of activity in the housing market shows new listings in Auckland rose a seasonally adjusted 2% in May compared with the previous month. The national rise was 0.8%.

At the same time sales rose in Auckland, indicating the market now favours vendors.

The website's chief executive, Alistair Helm, says migration and tourism are helping to boost sales in Auckland, extending what is a two-speed recovery in the housing market.

Mr Helm expects sales activity to remain steady over the winter months.
