Stocks on Wall Street have risen, as China's trade surplus eased fears about a slowdown in global economic growth and Microsoft said it would pay $US8.5 billion in cash for Skype.
The Dow Jones Index on Tuesday rose 76 points, or 0.6%, to 12,760.
The Nasdaq Composite gained 29 points, or more than 1%, to finish the session at 2872.
Stock markets in Europe rebounded. The FTSE 100 in London jumped 1.28% to end the day at 6019.
The CAC 40 in Paris added 1.13% to 4,053 points while the DAX in Frankfurt rose by 1.23% to 7502 points, reversing losses on Monday.
The Australian 200 Index fell on Tuesday, closing 31 points, or 0.7% lower, at 4726.
The NZX 50 rose 10 points, or 0.3%, to 3529.
At 8.20am on Wednesday, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 79.52 US cents, 73.39 Australian cents, 48.62 pence, 64.28 yen and 0.5521 euro.
The Trade Weighted Index was at 68.31.
Brent crude oil was trading at $US118.80 per barrel and gold was trading at $US1516.79 per ounce.
