More firms rehiring staff - and pleased they did

New research suggests that more than half of New Zealand businesses have rehired former employees, as the economic climate begins to improve.

More than 1000 employers throughout the country were interviewed by the recruitment firm Hudson.

It found that while businesses were disappointed with 44% of their recently hired staff, they rated 90% of rehired employees as above average.

Hudson's executive general manager, Marc Burrage, says the talent shortage in the country has been exacerbated by the recession, which has forced businesses to consider other options, such as rehiring staff.
