Tauranga container terminal to be expanded

The board of the Port of Tauranga has approved a $30 million expansion project.

The listed port operator's half year profit rose 23% to $28 million in the six months to December, on the back of an increase in trade volume.

The company has issued a slight lift in full year profit expectations to $53-$56 million.

Chief executive Mark Cairns says the berth extension to the container terminal will allow longer container ships to use the port.
