Vector has been added to the list of preferred bidders to roll out ultrafast broadband.

Crown Fibre Holdings says it will negotiate with Vector to cover the Auckland area alongside Telecom, which was already in the running for Auckland and other parts of the country.

Enable Networks remains the preferred bidder in Canterbury and Rangiora, Alpine Energy in Timaru and Flute Joint Venture, which is represented by Aurora Energy, in Dunedin.

The Government will contribute $1.5 billion to the ultra fast broadband initiative.

Two energy network firms have previously won contracts for Whangarei and the central North Island.
