Statistics New Zealand is to stop producing monthly retail sales figures. The agency will update the figures only every three months.
Analysts and the financial markets will now have to rely on monthly electronic card transactions figures to get an idea of spending patterns.
UBS analyst Robin Clements is disappointed by the change, saying it's a step backwards.
