Briscoe Group expects competition between retailers to remain fierce this year.
The company owns the Briscoes, Living & Giving and Rebel Sports chains. It says sales at stores open more than a year rose 2.4% in the 12 months to the end of January and it's on track to boost full year profit by more than 10%.
Briscoe says aggressive marketing and discounting proved successful at attracting customers over the Christmas period.
But managing director Rod Duke expects competition between retailers to remain intense this year.
However, he says the higher New Zealand dollar should help the group.
