Guest nights in short term commercial accommodation fell 1.7% in October, compared with the same month last year.
Statistics New Zealand says the fall is due to a large drop in international guest nights, which were down 5.7%.
But, the fall in overseas visitors was offset by a slight rise in domestic guest nights, which were up 0.9%.
Statistics New Zealand says the biggest decrease in guest nights was in Canterbury, which is probably due to the earthquake on 4 September.
