Facebook expected to attract email users too

A new all-in-one message platform on Facebook is expected to entice new customers away from more traditional email service providers.

The global social networking website is offering its 500 million users and any new users, a facebook.com email address, pooling this with instant and text messages.

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg says it's not an email-killer. He says he does not see email as a modern messaging system and young people prefer more direct ways of communicating such as texting.

But Ovum senior consultant Craig Skinner warns email and social network site users against putting all their eggs in one basket.
