Retailer Smiths City says sales fell more than 4% the first six months of its financial year, and it expects trading conditions to remain difficult.
The Christchurch-based company says sales at its stores in that city have been disrupted by the earthquake as shoppers stay away from the city centre.
Smiths City says it has applied to its insurance company to cover the loss in business since the quake.
