State-owned Mighty River Power attracted 15,000 more customers in the three months to September, compared with the previous three months.
The increase in electricity customers means the company's residential sales volume rose 12% compared with the same quarter last year.
Wholesale prices increased over the quarter, but are still very low, reflecting high hydro storage throughout the country and benign national demand conditions.
