The benchmark NZX50 index rose 9 points, or 0.3%, to 2962, on turnover of $55 million, at the close of trading on Wednesday.
Rises included Fletcher Building, up by 4 cents to $7.67; Telecom by 3 cents to $1.86; Contact Energy by 1 cent to $5.84; Auckland International Airport 2 cents to $1.93; The Warehouse by 2 cents to $3.42; and Pike River Coal by 7 cents to $1.00.
Other rises included Nuplex, by 2 cents to $2.87; and Hellaby Holdings by 8 cents to $1.60, after announcing it had reduced debt.
Falls included Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, down by 1 cent to $3.09; Sky City Entertainment Group by 2 cents to $2.88; Sky Network Television by 1 cent to $4.66; NZX by 3 cents to $1.55; and New Zealand Oil and Gas by 1 cent to $1.19.
In currency markets, the NZ dollar was at 69.21 US, 81.65 Australian, 45.70 pence, 60.53 yen, and 0.5493 euro. The TWI stood at 66.12.
