Independent telecommunications analyst Paul Budde says Vodafone has profited hugely at Telecom's expense from changes to open up the market, but gains will be harder to achieve in the coming year.
He says the market share lost by Telecom has been picked up by the UK-based mobile giant, while TelstraClear's share has remained about the same.
The Sydney-based Mr Budde estimates the market will grow a modest 2% to $7.2 billion this year as intense competition has forced down prices.
He is forecasting growth to pick up slightly next year, rising 3.5% to $7.5 billion.
