The latest survey of business conditions shows manufacturing activity has shrunk by more than half.
The New Zealand Manufacturers & Exporters Association survey shows sales fell 59% in April, compared with the same month last year.
At the same time, 50% of its members reported a drop in confidence, compared with 42% the previous month.
