Sharemarket finishes day up 22 points

The New Zealand sharemarket closed up 22 points to 2686 on turnover of $56 million on Tuesday.

Telecom finished up 8 cents to $2.71, Contact Energy was down 5c to $5.55, Fletcher Building was up 14c to $6.38 and Lion Nathan was up 11c to $14.71.

NZX finished the day up 7c to $6.82, Steel and Tube was up 10c to $2.65, Pike River Coal was up 1c to 76c and The Warehouse ended the day's trading down 1c to $3.48.

The dollar was trading at 55.45 US cents, 79.05 Australian cents, 38.03 pence, 53.29 yen and 0.4264 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was 55.45.

Across the Tasman, the Australian sharemarket closed marginally lower, weighed down by banking stocks, but there were gains in the agribusiness and healthcare sectors.

The S&P/ASX200 was down 23.2 points to 3708.4 while the All Ordinaries fell 18.3 points to 3671.7.

On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the June share price index contract was 27 points lower at 3,689 on a volume of 33,489 contracts.
