NZ market ends week higher, dollar up

The New Zealand sharemarket ended the trading week higher, the benchmark Top 50 Index gaining 21 points to 5484 at the close.

Harbour Asset Management's Craig Stent said the market was mixed but ended the week on a high note after losing a bit of ground yesterday.

Spark rose 8 cents to $3.27, Air New Zealand was up 6 cents to $2.14.5, The Warehouse gained 4 cents to $3.24 and New Zealand Refining was 7 cents higher to $1.92.

Meridian Energy fell 1.5 cents to $1.68 and Contact Energy was 3 cents lower at $6.25.

The New Zealand dollar was slightly up from this morning. At 5.20pm, it was about a third of a cent weaker against the US dollar at 78.50 US cents, 90.28 Australian, 50.05 British pence, 0.6302 euro, 91.04 yen and 4.81 renminbi.
