NZ shares rose on Friday

New Zealand shares rose again today, with the benchmark Top 50 Index hitting another fresh record for the sixth trading day in a row.

It rose 18 points to 5388.

NZ Equity Manager at JB Were, Rickey Ward, says the market ended on a strong note.

Ebos shares gained 47 cents to $9.57.

Tower rose 6 cents to $1.97.

Freightways had another good day, rising 20 cents to $5.70.

Kiwi little changed

The New Zealand dollar is little changed from its open this morning, with most of the market focus on the US dollar and other major currencies.

Bank of New Zealand foreign exchange strategist Raiko Shareef said there was little news to move the New Zealand dollar and so it drifted through the day.

At 5pm on Friday, the kiwi was trading at 78.47 US cents, 88.89 Australian cents, 49.06 British pence, 0.6226 euro, 85.81 yen and 4.79 renminbi.
